Reviewers: DerianX slicer Face OldGrandad

*** slicer is now known as slicer|BRB
...
* Face slaps DerianX around a bit with a large trout
DerianX: :o
* DerianX slaps Face around with an idle slicer
* Face slaps DerianX around the face with a stick
DerianX: ...
* Face thinks Slicer has fallen asleep
...
OldGrandad: My bed is calling me
DerianX: Okay, lets start without slicer

Textures
Face: The door on the roof is hinged incorrectly, if I remember correctly
DerianX: I think a lot of them were backwards, Stone has a backwards door fetish I think
Face: lol
DerianX: They all seemed to be aligned though, aside from the doors I mean
Face: In general the textures seemed well chosen
DerianX: slicer, any comments?
...
DerianX: Guess not
DerianX: Anything look messy?
Face: Inside the building
OldGrandad: The textures weren't very coordinated
DerianX: But they aren't bad though
OldGrandad: Not really
DerianX: Okay then, scores for textures?
OldGrandad: Maybe a 5
*** slicer|BRB is now known as slicer
DerianX: Oh, look who woke up
Face: 6
DerianX: We're discussing textures
OldGrandad: A simple layout, but let down by the playing area being too small
slicer: ...
DerianX: Okay, so slicer, textures out of 10?
...
DerianX: I'll say 6
...
slicer: Errr... Dockside right?
Face: Yes
...
* Face pokes slicer
DerianX: I found them suitable, but bland in areas, especially in the alleyways
* Face gives the textures a whopping 6 out of 10
* DerianX waits for slicer's score
...
DerianX: Face, poke him again
* Face punches slicer
DerianX: lol
slicer: ok... err... textures
...
Face: slicer, just give us your score out of 10 for the textures!
DerianX: rofl
slicer: 4
slicer: Basic textures, nothing special
Face: Shut up slicer
DerianX: hehe

Acrhitecture
OldGrandad: 4
slicer: 4
DerianX: er... why?
Face: Simple architecture, nothing special, boxy
DerianX: true
slicer: I agree
Face: 3, but I'll make it 4 for effort.
DerianX: 4
OldGrandad: As a first offering there was limited knowledge of the ability in the SDK
DerianX: Yes, it was 1337 in it's day
slicer: =)
DerianX: So was slicer
slicer: !
OldGrandad: All the buildings are predominantly boxes apart from the shed
slicer: Yep, lol
DerianX: Okay then

Lighting
slicer: Lighting = poor in some areas
slicer: 7 for lighting
OldGrandad: I disagree, as a first map there was some good placing of lights
DerianX: I thing the lighting was very good in places but bad in others
slicer: Lem'me load up the map =)
DerianX: The coronas on the bulbs outside were too low
Face: The lighting was generally good and seemed to create a good ambience for the environment
DerianX: a lot of maps have really bad lighting
slicer: actually, after seeing the map, I give the lighting 8
DerianX: Me too
* Face has to agree.
OldGrandad: I can see he had some influence from Unreal mappers with the use of some of the lights, 7

Sounds & Music
Face: The dockyard sound freaks me out... the dinging of that bell
slicer: Hmmm... sound is standard... music is NYStreets
slicer: Rat noises, hmmm... dock, turret, computer noises
Face: Music is well suited.
slicer: yep
Face: The dock noise scares me.
OldGrandad: boo
* Face jumps
DerianX: hehe
DerianX: I liked the use of rat sounds and bell toiling, I'd say 8
* Face says 8
OldGrandad: 8
slicer: 8
DerianX: Okay then, it's settled, 8 it is

Layout & Design
DerianX: Most of the map is easily accessible
slicer: yep
DerianX: it's got indoor, outdoor and water areas
OldGrandad: A simple layout but too cramped
Face: Simple design, which is usually a good thing for multiplayer maps. However, it was poorly executed in several respects, and like previously stated, the spawn points are in horrible places, surely this wasn't a designed idea
DerianX: Well, the spawn points aside
DerianX: I think the alleys are too bimple
...
DerianX: er, simple
slicer: lol
slicer: Hmmm... I think the map overall is too small. Target for 6 players...
Face: I'd say 4 players max, but you could end up playing cat and mouse and never get killed.
DerianX: Overall though, it's fairly decent
Face: the map is too small.
slicer: Yeah, it's smaller than Smugglers
DerianX: A bit, but the water and the roof add a bit of openness though
slicer: heh
DerianX: I'd say 6
slicer: I'll give it 5
OldGrandad: As layout goes overall I would only give it 4
Face: I'll give it a 5
Face: I don't think you can fit through the pipe, isn't that a design problem?
DerianX: I fit through the pipe
slicer: It's possible to get in the pipe, but its rather difficult
Face: Both ways?
DerianX: yep
Face: hmmm
DerianX: TRY HARDER!
slicer: lol
Face: Okay, I'm talking rubbish then.
DerianX: As usual
* Face says it makes a change from listening to slicer talk rubbish
DerianX: rofl
slicer: !
slicer: He said 5
DerianX: oh
* Face says 5... again.
* DerianX smacks forehead
* Face smacks DerianX's forehead too.
DerianX: ouch

Item Placement
Face: Spawn points are all wrong.
slicer: Hmmm... spawn points!
DerianX: Not the worst I've seen, but definitely not good
Face: There are a few items but not enough, plus they all seem to be within the same area
slicer: The weapons and stuff are placed pretty badly
DerianX: Some weapons were missing entirely
OldGrandad: Okay, hands up for how many people ever got the LAW from the bottom of the harbor
DerianX: there's a LAW?
...
OldGrandad: See what I mean?
slicer: No decent range of weapons in the outside spawn points
Face: Overall, pretty poor item placement
DerianX: I didn't like the GEP location since GEPs have no advantage
Face: The LAW placement was quite good!
DerianX: I noticed there were no throwing knives
Face: Yeah, the lack of throwing knives lowers my view of the item placement too
DerianX: 3
slicer: 2
Face: I'll give it 2
OldGrandad: 2.5
DerianX: ooh, a decimal
* Face announces that he will be giving the item placement a score of 2
OldGrandad: ok 3
DerianX: hehe

Playability
slicer: Oh, where is the law? I can't find it now
DerianX: lol
slicer: Playability = 3
DerianX: The lighting lagged quite a bit
Face: The addition of the mice adds to lag too
DerianX: The spawn points made it hard too
Face: yes
DerianX: Lots of spawn killing
OldGrandad: I give 3
* Face gives playability a score of 2
DerianX: Then again, there were no custom packages, which is good for servers
slicer: hmmm
DerianX: But it was a still a big file for a small map
* Face gives the following reason: Poor choice of spawn point locations made it difficult to really get into the game once killed, and because of the poor layout you could end up not being able to kill anyone.
* slicer agrees with Face
OldGrandad: He had quite a few scripted pawns in it
* Face says that the scripted pawns adds to the lag already endured by the over use of lighting
DerianX: Okay, I'll say 5 because despite the lag and spawn points, there were no serious design flaws
slicer: Hmmm, I'll stick with 2 for playability, it does disappoint as to how much it can provide
DerianX: Hmmm, I changed my mind, 4
* Face gives playability a 2
slicer: 2
* Face asks OldGrandad to hurry up
...
* slicer chases after OldGrandad with a leaf rake
...
* Face starts to sing
* slicer points at Face and laughs
Face: tra la la, la la la la, la la lal la la la la... one banana, two banana, three banana, four
slicer: lol
DerianX: hmmm, check his pulse
* Face checks his pulse but can't feel anything
...
*** OldGrandad has quit (Ping timeout)
slicer: lol
...
Face: 1, 2, 3 4 5, once I caught a fish alive
Face: 6, 7, 8 9 10, then I let it go again
Face: Why did you let it go?
Face: Because it bit my finger so
Face: Which finger did it bite?
Face: This little finger, on my right
...
*** OldGrandad has joined
OldGrandad: Okay, for fun factor I would say 2.5, because as a first time playing it is different, but after finding its limitations I quickly got bored with it
DerianX: er... what about playability?
OldGrandad: I already said 3
DerianX: I know, but I thought you might change your mind
OldGrandad: no
...
DerianX: ok

Fun Factor
DerianX: Gramps, you said 2.5
OldGrandad: Yes, I became bored with this map quickly
DerianX: I did too, but it depends, I've had a few rounds in Dockside that were purely fun, I'll say 3
slicer: I say 0
* Face laughs at slicer
slicer: err... correction, 3
* Face laughs at slicer again
slicer: ?
...
* Face rates it at 2.5

Final Thoughts
...
OldGrandad: pants
Face: lol
DerianX: Yes, pants... you should put some on by the way
slicer: Um...
OldGrandad: As probably the first user map it showed promise, and what you could do with the editor
DerianX: I'd say it was good in it's day, but not by today's standards
slicer: I agree, considering that it is the first DXMP map
DerianX: It will always be a classic
Face: A good first map for Deus Ex which showed promise for things that could be done for DXMP, although it quickly got dated and became surpassed by other maps that were released
OldGrandad: a good kick start for the DXMP community
* Face kick starts OldGrandad
DerianX: hehe
OldGrandad: :)
