2-D editor for dummy's

Hello all,This is Geist and this is my first tutorial so please bear with me. I have decided to do a tutorial on the 2d editor because I feel that the current ones are hard to understand and confusing. I am going to try my best to simplify the explination.

When you first open the 2d editor you see a triangle on a grid, the grid is just like the regular ued grid and it is default set to 16 like the other grid so remember that every square you use is 16 untis. Also keep in mind that the green cross in the center is your pivot point and is always the center of your shape unless you are going to use the revolve option which then you must put pivot point on left or right of your shape(more on this later).

Now the triangle has 3 verticies and you probably want to make something a bit more involved than a triangle. You can add verticies or as many as you want. Now the thing to keep in mind is that you are looking at a sheet; 1 flat side of a polyhedron. You can manipulate this shape to what you want but keep in mind that upon making a shape the shape will only be 2 sides of your real shape. Now to add a verticie you must select where you want it added go ahead and mouseclick on the top verticie of the triangle, you will see a circle appear and one of the sides of the triangle will highlight. if you click again the other side will highlight, then click on bottom left or right virticie and you will see that you can select between that side and the bottom face ot the triangle.Good now you are getting somwhere! Now you can add a virticie to whichever side you have highlited by going to virticie on the toolbar or using quick key ctrl-I. lets for this tutorial start by highlighting the right side and adding 1 verticie now you will see a line appear in the inside of the triangle, this might make it confusing so just ignore lines inside your shape my best advise.Ok so now you have 4 verticies to work with,go ahead and drag that verticie to the right just by clicking and holding. make a simple box out of the triangle, that was easy right? now go to toolbar>loft>extrude. click that and you will see a box open up that says 2d extruder just ignore everything there because it is set fine for now already just focus on depth, the depth should be self explanitory so just set it to however many feet you want and hit build. you now have a shiny new square WOW! not much of a deal but you have walked away with an understanding of the 2d editor. now to explain the revolve lofting option. if you were to revolve the shape you would get the shape not stretched out like the extruder, but curved like a cylinder. to explain this you are going to have to make an eight virtice pipe just add virticies until you have 8 then make a small cylinder shape to the left of your pivot point. now hit loft>revolve and you should get the revolve screen. only pay attention to the "sides per 360 digrees" and "number of sides" leave sides per 360 digrees alone and in number of sides type 3. hit build and look you have a big C ha ha yeah you now know how to manipulate the 2d editor. as for the other extrude options your on your own they are easy to understand for you now anyway, I hope!
