Title : Break In 1.4 Filename : BreakIn1_4.zip Author : Ray Wenderlich Email Address : rjw16@cornell.edu Description : A two level single player map following the story of an alternate Deus-Ex reality, where JC Denton wakes up to a strange sound in the middle of the night in his house. Won 3rd place in the Deus Ex Single Player Level of the Year Contest sponsored by ION Storm. Background : Note that this map is not based in the DeusEx world: although characters have the same names, there is no resemblance! For example, in this level JC Denton is a lawyer and Jaime Reyes is a hotel receptionist. Gameplay : This map was designed with the idea to be able to allow as many different play styles as possible. This time, ALL of the skills are useful... swimming has a purpose, as does health, as do rifles, as do heavy weapons. The use you make of skill points has a tremendous impact on the game. AND YES! You start without a weapon on purpose >;) Deus Ex is about sneaking around, after all. If you are completely stumped, there is a spoiler at the bottom of the readme. Additional credits to : ION Storm for the game, PlanetDeusEx for hosting the level design contest, DXEditing.com for tutorials, the makers of UnrealED for a tool that is a JOY to work with, Paz for being so patient with me, Krypt for his readme which I'm basing this on, and most importantly Carone for a great elevator mod which I used and included his readme. * Installation / Play instructions * Unzip the file into your Deus Ex directory, the files will automatically go into the appropriate paths. Make sure you have the Team UC mod loader installed; for your convenience it's included in the zip. Then you just select the Break In mod from the Team UC menu. * Construction * Levels : Original design, although I directly copied a few things from the orginal DX maps, like the outdoor light fixtures and some desks and furniture. Editors used : UnrealEd Known Bugs : There are some problems with infinite recursion errors when doors are blocked in the second part of the map. I tried to prevent this from happening as much as possible, but it would be a good idea to save now and then just in case. Also, there are some problems with the lights in the back of Enblid's building... but luckily they don't interfere much. * Copyright / Permissions * You can distribute this all you want. I would prefer if you didn't distribute edited versions since I'm going to be adding some new features to this map in the future, but if you really want to just give me credit in the readme. * Spoiler / Hint * To get a crowbar, your first weapon, wait by the stairs and watch for the guard to walk away. Go down the stairs and you will find a lockpick: bring it back to your room and open the cabinet to find your weapon. If you feel really lucky, go take on the guards :) But there is another way, as always...
