The Klystron Project

A letter from Smike, Half-Founder of The Klystron Project:

I am sorry to announce that, due to real-life problems, time constraints, lack of funds, and a complete lack of support amongst our closest friends, we have decided to kill the project.

Thanks to all of you who supported us, and thanks to the fans - all five of you - who never gave up. The dream has died.

It's officially dead. The deadest project I've ever seen...

... are words that you will never, ever, not in a million-billion years EVER hear me say.

(you may now explode)

It is, however, NOT FINISHED.

RAM and I started this project because we both love Deus Ex, Looking Glass Studios, Ion Storm, System Shock, and all those influences that made the year 2000 the apex of the now seemingly ancient "Golden Age" of gaming. We wanted to be involved, somehow.

After modifying and tweaking our share of games throughout our teenage years, including creating small mods for Starcraft, Civilization 2, Duke Nukem, Quake 2, and a plethora of other small games, we were already experienced and knowledgeable when we started The Klystron Project. We chose Deus Ex in specific because it was, and still is, the best game ever made. A fact that saddens me more than anything, as it points to the recent creative constipation of the industry.

RAM introduced me to the game in 2000. After recovering from the shocking magnificence of a first (and very quickly a second) playthrough, we both immediately saw the game's flaws and what could be improved. We felt that this universe could be expanded. More than that, we saw Alex Denton floating in a tube below Area 51, and we knew that this universe should be expanded - because it would be a crime not to continue such a story. The question was, could we improve it? Could we possibly take the creative reigns and continue the story? The answer, we now know, is an undeniable, absolutely certain yes we can.

And once you experience it, when it is finished, you will agree with us.

Welcome to our project, the world of

AL-X5: SPADE II

The Eye of Alex

The Klystron Project is the umbrella name for the various intricacies and offshoots of a single player total conversion (SPTC, or a "mod" for short) being developed for a game called Deus Ex™. This site is essentially a compiled journal of the process we are going through to create the mod, officially titled "AL-X5: SPADE II." Currently, the project is being developed by two men. If you would like, you can tell them what you think by visiting the Contact section. If you want to see a history of the site, head on over to the News Archive. We are a PlanetDeusEx hosted site. Which means that we are part of the IGN / Gamespy Network, who are ultimately controlled and wholly owned by Fox Newscorp, but fuck them.
