Face Designs will not | | provide support with any manual installation of the demo. | | | | | | Step 1 | | ------ | | | | Once you have downloaded the DisclosureDemo.zip package you | | should unzip all of the contents to the same directory, i.e. | | c:\DisclosureInstall | | (This can be done using a program such as WinZip available | | from www.winzip.com) | | | | | | Step 2 | | ------ | | Then, using “My Computer” in Windows, locate the directory you | | unzipped the files to and then double click on the Setup.exe | | program file. You should follow Disclosure’s custom written | | setup program’s on-screen instructions; this will then | | copy the files to the necessary directories and make the | | appropriate changes to your Deus Ex configuration. | | | | | | Step 3 | | ------ | | | | Start Deus Ex as you normally would. | | | | | | Step 4 | | ------ | | | | Select “New Game” | | | | | | Step 5 | | ------ | | | | Upgrade the skill selections of your choice | | | | | | Step 6 | | ------ | | | | Sit back, watch the “Intro” and prepare yourself to play. | | | | | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | | | Uninstalling the Disclosure Modification is even simpler: | | | | Step 1 | | ------ | | | | From the directory that you unzipped all of Disclosure’s files | | to (i.e. c:\DisclosureInstall), double click on the | | Uninstall.exe program file. | | | | | | Step 2 | | ------ | | | | Follow the on-screen instructions and Disclosure will uninstall| | | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | TROUBLESHOOTING | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | | | If you experience any problems whilst installing, playing or | | uninstalling the Disclosure Demo, please visit | | www.facedesigns.co.uk/support.htm - during installation and | | uninstallation, Disclosure will create a file on your C:\ | | drive named “Disclosure.log”. This contains important | | information regarding the processes carried out and, if | | applicable, those which failed. | | | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | KNOWN ISSUES | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | | | The following issues are known: | | | | 1) Introduction may not play correctly on certain “customised” | | installations of Deus Ex. | | | | An issue has been identified which does not allow the Intro to | | play correctly. The cinematic plays fine but no text is | | displayed. The only known solution is to reinstall Deus Ex and | | then install Disclosure immediately afterwards. It is thought | | that this problem only affects a minute number of players. | | | | | | 2) During game-play, Deus Ex exits and returns to Windows. | | | | It is thought that this is a problem internal Deus Ex as it | | does not occur in a set pattern (i.e. it randomly happens). | | Regularly saving the game will enable you to continue playing | | the demo should Deus Ex exit unexpectedly. | | If this problem occurs, please email face@rush365.co.uk with | | full details (the actual error displayed and when it occurred –| | i.e. what part of the mission you were at). This will enable | | us to locate the error and fix it for the final Disclosure | | release. | | | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | FACE DESIGNS WILL NOT SUPPORT ANY MANUAL INSTALLATION | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | | | | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | DISCLOSURE DEMO FEATURES | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | | | The Disclosure Demo contains the following: | | | | - 4 new maps, designed and created by Face | | (1 Intro/Cut Scene and 3 Playable Maps) | | - Custom Music for the Intro and 3rd Playable Map | | - New story-line which follows on from two story arcs in Deus | | Ex (Paul’s death in NYC and the Tong Ending) | | - New conversations, data-cubes, newspaper articles etc. | | | | This Demo is the complete first mission of the mod; it is | | relatively short in comparison to the other missions | | throughout Disclosure. | | | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | DISCLOSURE WHY? | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | | | As some of you may know, Deus Ex was the first game that I | | ever got involved with on the “community” side of things. In | | April 2001 I started my journey into the world of mapping - | | that was the first ever time that I had looked at a games | | editor, I had never had any experience with 3D environments | | and the like. Shortly after I released the result of my first | | effort, DXMP_Towers. As fun as creating multiplayer maps was, | | I was eager to continue my quest of learning how to design | | games, and set about starting my own Mod to try and get some | | experience. | | | | I was on a mission, a mission to create a complete modification| | on my own, with little help from external sources. I wanted to | | build every map in the mod, write the code and develop a solid | | story line that would keep players playing. A little ambitious | | you might think? Especially for someone with only one month’s | | experience with his first ever editor for a game. Undeterred | | I begun… | | | | The demo of the modification that you are about to play, or | | have just played, was mainly mapped out in May of 2001 (one | | month after my first experience with a level designer). Looking| | back to this map I see many mistakes, or better ways of | | implementing elements and doing things, which begs the question| | why didn’t I redo it before release? One of the key objectives | | of doing this modification was to build a portfolio of work | | that could be used in the future for a career change. It’s a | | personal thing, I wanted to build a mod that got progressively | | better over time, so that I could look back and improve in the | | future. Indeed, the veterans of modding and games development | | will probably see “inexperience” written all over the Demo maps| | I do myself! I’m not ashamed or afraid to admit it either, we | | all have to start somewhere – and starting off with such a | | large project all on my own was the best thing that I could | | have done in my opinion. | | | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | What's yet to come with Disclosure? | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | | | **Possible Spoiler – Play Disclosure Demo First** | | | | As you should realise by now, the Disclosure Demo doesn’t go | | into a lot of detail about the plot or story line. This was, | | of course, purely intentional. I wanted to build the | | anticipation up even further, it’s not until towards the end | | of Mission 2/3 that we begin to learn exactly what’s going on, | | whether or not we learn the “truth” at the end of Mission 10 | | is another thing. The remaining 9 Missions of Disclosure are | | extremely open-ended, you play them how you want to play them, | | speaking to whoever you want, whenever you want. I’ve tried to | | keep Disclosure as close to the Deus Ex experience as | | possible, I hope that you will feel like you are still | | playing Deus Ex and that it’s not simply some half-baked | | idea that loses the thread halfway through. | | | | At the time of writing this (on the eve of the Demo release, | | 21st February 2002), Disclosure is still following a strict | | development plan with many maps/missions continuing to be | | worked on. It’s still too early to speculate on a release date,| | but it’s looking likely for a late summer/early fall release. | | | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | FEEDBACK | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | | | Feedback is extremely important to me, and I value it all, | | whether good or bad. I would like to hear what you think about | | Disclosure so far, including what you liked and disliked and | | what you would like to see in the later missions. | | | | I do read all emails that I get, but sometimes it’s difficult | | for me to reply promptly, so if you don’t get a response | | immediately you know why. | | | | Email me at: face@rush365.co.uk or check my website at | | http://www.facedesigns.co.uk/ | | | | Thanks! Hope you enjoy the mod! | | | | Face | | | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+ | End Transmission | +-+----------------------------------------------------------------+-+
