worlds arranged in a roughly strand-like formation. Throughout numerous
periods of ascension and collapse, the galactic civilization has existed
on worlds scattered along the Chain. Aeons have passed---an everlasting
alternation of times of enlightenment followed by dark ages. The Chain is
vast and old. Newly emergent races struggle against ancient empires
