Weapon Descriptions
Melee
|
Energy Blade
|
Description
- A well-balanced sword, enhanced by a plasma-electric charge
that increases strike damage.
Mods Accepted - None
Tips - Of all the melee weapons this one does the most
hurt. It does have a similar looking relative which does more.
Look under Unique Weapons
to find out more. |
|
|
Baton |
Description
- A heavyweight polyurethane baton. Ideal for non-lethal incapacitation.
Mods Accepted - None
Tips - Unlike the first Deus Ex, this baton rocks.
As with all melee weapons, combine with a maxed out Enhanced
Strength biomod to get the pull potential of this weapon. |
|
|
Crowbar
|
Description
- A standard heavy-duty crowbar.
Mods Accepted - None
Tips - Though it does more damage
than the baton its also slower. Really a matter of preference
in terms of which one you use. |
|
|
Combat Knife
|
Description
- A heavy military knife. Ultra high carbon steel. Virtually
unbreakable. Heft and blanace make it suitable for slashing
and stabbing.
Mods Accepted - None
Tips - If killing is the game
its either this or the energy sword. Early in the game you
can find a unique version of knife which does more damage.
Check out Unique Weapons
for details. |

|
Stun Prod
|
Description
- Delivers a short-ranged electrical stun attack to a single
organic target.
Mods Accepted - None
Tips - Even after the v1.1 patch
was released this weapon is but a shadow of its former self.
Single in-the-back stuns will not bring a target down like
it use to in the first Deus Ex. The fact that it also uses
up ammo doesn't make it a good choice for anything. |
Pistol / Rifle
|
Boltcaster
|
Description
- An accelerator that electromagnetically launches a bolt
to deliver a non-lethal neurotoxin to the target. Alternate
fire mode toggles a scope.
Mods Accepted - All
Tips - Excellent stealth weapon
(its already silenced) and with a refire rate mod its even
effective against small groups of targets, just make sure
you're not seen. The only drawback to this weapon comes later
in the game when you go up against armored targets. Despite
this, I carried the weapon with me throughout the entire game. |
|
|
Shotgun |
Description
- Weapon fires an anti-personnel blast in a wide pattern,
ideal for fighting tight groups of multiple opponents. Alternate
firing mode launches smoke grenade.
Mods Accepted - All but Silencer
Tips - Loud, noisy, and deals
a good amount of damage at close range. It can be a bit of
a toss up between this weapon and the SMG. I tended to favor
the SMG. Alt-fire makes a cloud of smoke that if you have
Vision Enhancement you can see your enemy through it provided
you're not in it. The advantage of smoke grenades over flashbombs
are pretty big. Flashbombs require the enemy to be looking
at them when they go off to be effective. Smoke grenades blind
and stop all who enter the area. |
|
|
Pistol
|
Description
- A modern 9mm pistol, manufactured by Mako Ballistics. Alternate
fire mode toggles a beam flashlight.
Mods Accepted - All
Tips - Simple and effective.
With the v1.1 patch out it will do more damage with headshots
but when you really want your headshots to count you should
use the sniper rifle. Overall, the pistol is a good choice
until you can find something better (like the boltcaster).

|
|
SMG
|
Description
- Fully automatic rapid-fire submachine gun. Its alternate
firing mode launches a flashbomb.
Mods Accepted - All except Refire
Rate and Silencer.
Tips - The weapon of choice for
the combat jock. Make sure you take advantage of the alt-fire.
Flashbombs are a bit limited in the game and being able to
blind large groups of targets makes them easy to handle. This
weapon practically begs to be modded. Ammo Scavenger and Fragmentary
Round are good choices. |
|
|
Sniper Rifle |
Description
- A long-distance ballistic weapon with a low refire rate.
Alt-fire scope dramatically increases your shot's damage by
improving your ability to pinpoint vital organs.
Mods Accepted - All
Tips - Despite the small size
of some levels this weapon is still very effective. Best used
with single shots to the head of your target. Make sure you
have the scope activated otherwise this gun will not do the
most damage. Mods to consider include Ammo Scavenger and Refire
Rate. Increased Damage doesn't help much if you already get
one-shot take downs. |
