The very first thing you need to do is ensure you have the latest DirectX installed (7.0a), the latest video drivers for your card, and GLSetup (www.glsetup.com). No point in even reading any further if you haven't taken these steps.
If you have a Direct3D-based card, you need to download the new .dll and use it.
If you do not find an answer to your question here, then try posting about it on the Deus Ex Incarnate forums. If you have encountered problems and then found solutions, help someone else out and e-mail us so we can add it here.
I downloaded the demo but am getting some weird error message about Ambient.uax being corrupt or something.
The mirror that you downloaded the demo from most likely had a corrupt file. The people that have had this problem said that the following individual files need to be re-downloaded. It is strongly recommended that users use GetRight or a similar download manager to get these files.
I'm running (insert Nvidia chipped card here) and I'm getting [any of the following] blocky or grainy textures, sorting problems, weird squares around some decals or in the HUD menu.
Running in 32-bit color-depth should solve most of these issues.
Why the hell didn't ION Storm use the latest D3D build from Epic?
A couple of weeks before the final version push, Deus Ex was merged to
UT4.20 plus patches. They are on the latest build.
I have Win95 (first release) or Win95a(OSR1) and when I try to install the Deus Ex Demo I get a "GetFreeDiskSpace" error (or similar). What should I do?
Your best bet is to upgrade your operating system to Win95B(OSR2) or later. This issue *will* be fixed in the first Deus Ex patch, though. Unreal Tournament owners can use the following fix suggested by ColKurtz: "Simply whip out your Unreal Tournament CD, find the Setup.Exe under system, hit copy (as in clipboard copy... trust me it works), find the Deus Ex setup.exe in the temp\ws1045zt\system\, hit paste, say yes to the overwrite, and play!". Users please note that some people are finding that neither of these solutions works for them.
Just installed the game. However, I can't get it out of windowed mode. Anyone else having this problem? I have a NVidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 with the lastest leaked drivers. Any help would be great.
Detonator 3.68 is always a good fallback for test purposes. . .
I spent twelve hours downloading this bigass file and get 'DirectX Cab ERROR' when trying to install it.
I made a folder on my desktop named "Deus Ux" and manually extracted ALL the files except the "DirectX Cab" file into that folder. I figured why do I need it, I already HAVE DX 7.0a installed?!! Everything unpacked and moved into that folder just fine. Then, on a lark, I tried extracting that single DirectX Cab file by itself into that folder. Well, it worked! It still gives me the error at the end of the extraction, but all the files appear to be in the folder OK. And when I went to install the game by clicking SETUP in the folder, I simply unchecked the box to install DX 7.0a since I already have it. The installation continued and completed just fine then. Try manually extracting it and installing it separately and see if that works. (Solution provided by Trineo).
I have an ATI Rage and would like some speed increases.
Set DetailTextures to False in the .ini file (or in the in-game options if you can). (solution provided by pittfurg).
I have an ATI Rage. If I start the game, and go into "Training Missions," As soon as I open the door at the end of the hall, and walk through it, the game hangs. No matter what I do.
Go download their beta drivers. It fixed everything for me and everything is working great!
When you click on driver update, they give you two options:
Supported drivers
Unsupported drivers (beta of their next release).
The second option is the one you want to choose. (solution provided by Bagel)
I have an Nvidia-based card and would like some speed increases.
For GeForce users set DetailTextures to False in the .ini file. It really improves performance. Make sure you tweak the hell out of the settings (world textures = medium, detail textures = off), if you own an NVIDIA card. At least one TNT2Ultra user has experienced significant increases in performance by using the Detonator 5.30 drivers found at ReactorCritical.
