Weapons comprise a large hunk of your inventory, so it's best to figure out what you'll carry and what to leave behind. Each weapon belongs to a weapon class; each class then corresponds to a weapon skill. The more training you have in a weapon skill, the better you'll be with a weapon in the same class. Here are some quick notes on the better weapons to be found.

Low-Tech

Riot Prod: The best weapon a stealth player can have. It's always quiet, and can take down most enemies with one charge. Best used when you have, quite literally, closed the distance between you and your target to a point where your bodies are actually touching.

Crowbar: Never needs ammo though it tends to kill your target. The only problem with the crowbar is that your target will die noisily alerting other guards.

Baton: Unlike the crowbar, the baton will guarantee a silent non-lethal takedown. However, there is the nasty possibility the target will shrug off the blow and open fire.

Sword: It will take more space in your inventory, but also deals more damage. A better sword found later, you'll know it when you see it, but when combined with a mastered weapon, low-tech and combat strength augmentation are strong enough to destroy security cameras, alarm switches, and turrets.

Pistol

Pistol: It's the first ranged weapon you're likely to find. Useful until you get the stealth pistol.

Stealth Pistol: It does less damage, but the built-in silencer is great for silent, ranged takedowns.

Mini-Crossbow: This is a keeper. Using the tranquilizer darts take some getting use too, but it's well worth it. Regular darts are also effective though only having four darts to a clip can make for some tense situations when you have to reload. Finally, the mini-crossbow is the only ranged weapon that you can fire underwater. If you don't have one, its either swim away or hack your target with a low-tech weapon.

Rifle

Assault Rifle: Pretty much a no brainer. Alternate ammo even lets this little monster fire explosives. Add some weapon mods to knock down the recoil and a silencer, and you'll have fully automatic, silent death.

Sniper Rifle: Also a keeper if you have the room. You'll want to master the rifle weapons skill to minimize the bobbing of the scope when zoomed. Also, an added bonus of the master rifle skill is the ability to shatter cameras and turrets with the rifle. The silencer mod would even make this a good short-range weapon as well.

Assault Shotgun: Though you are likely to find the sawed-off shotgun first, drop it when you find one of these. It does a little less damage, but with 12 shots to a clip and a higher rate of fire, this beauty more than makes up for it. Switch to sabot rounds to chew up metal targets. I wouldn't recommend using this on security bots, but a few shots into a camera or turret will make quick work of it.

Heavy

Flamethrower: Not the most effective weapon in the heavy class, but it is the most fun. Conserve your fuel; it doesn't take much to set your target aflame. While on fire your target will not shoot at you, well most won't, and after a while they die smoldering.

GEP Gun: This is a must have, even stealth players should consider having one of these "lockpicks" around. Upgrading your heavy weapon skills will eliminate the slow movement you suffer when wielding this beast. If you have a solid tone, a rocket will track a target even as it moves away from you. WP rockets are another type of ammo that can be used to create an area effect flamethrower for a second. Don't forget to use them, as the regular rockets will tend to get used up quickly when you need to "open" a door.

LAW: I don't recommend carrying these around, but if you have the need to blow something up and one is handy, drop the GEP Gun and use this to save ammo. Beware, the explosion from a LAW is always bigger than you expect.

Demolition

Gas Grenades: Toss one into a room to immobilize all targets then finish them off with a GEP rocket or a LAM. Alternately, run past them and choke some damage down.

LAMs: Best used against bots if you can aim it well enough, or if possible, place in proximity mode in the path of the bot, just like in training. Also a good way to open locked chests, cabinets, and doors.
